I have a bleeding heart Seeping down to the soil below Joining an artesian flow To the wide open spaces of the ocean, love I’d rather a heart that bleeds Than one that causes me to drown Tears roll through my soul I have a bleeding heart And you with your heart made of stone Build yourself a fortress around your cold soul When love presents itself at your door Emptiness, it stands behind I’d rather a heart that bleeds Than one that causes me to drown Tears roll through my soul I have a bleeding heart

Mama she calls the table is ready tonight We ate played, day after day Summer winds take thistle seeds for ride We picked a piece of that family pie Moving back and forth with the tide Why don’t we rest some more tonight? Got some feelings deep inside Out of our sleep we shall rise Us children rode bicycles in the moonlight And kicked that football in the paddock ‘til it lost its hide And sister dressed me in those old fancy clothes, and when I Put that sunflower seed in the ground you could watch it grow Moving back and forth with the tide Why don’t we rest some more tonight? Got some feelings deep inside Out of our sleep we shall rise Sittin’ in a tree eating apples on a Saturday We never knew what would happen in the days to come Chicks leave the nest when they know how to fly The ebbs and flows see our innocence fade Moving back and forth with the tide Why don’t we rest some more tonight? Got some feelings deep inside Out of our sleep we shall rise

Have you heard about the Short-finned Eel? How it travels from the river to the sea? Many thousand miles later, the eel must spawn And the journey it begins again The journey of life it goes ‘round and ‘round The journey of life goes ‘round The journey of life makes a beautiful sound Doesn’t even end if you die I live up the creek from the falls Where the baby sort-finned eel must climb Up that old blue stone to some fresh-water home To grow fat if it happens to survive The journey of life it goes ‘round and ‘round The journey of life goes ‘round The journey of life makes a beautiful sound Doesn’t even end if you die You can be from any place in this world You can speak yourself with another tongue You don’t even have to be a short-finned eel To know the plot to the story is the same The journey of life it goes ‘round and ‘round The journey of life goes ‘round The journey of life makes a beautiful sound Doesn’t even end if you die You know how that eel is a slippery one How hard it is to hold within your hands You may think you grasp it, but then it is gone So hold on to the story if you can The journey of life it goes ‘round and ‘round The journey of life goes ‘round The journey of life makes a beautiful sound Doesn’t even end if you die Doesn’t even end if you die Doesn’t even end when you die

Wake Up 06:18
I’ve been roaming over this land Searching these windswept plains Over this land of dreams Land of dreams I’ve been longing to see you here You who my people fear Yet every day you see me You see me Wake up Wake up We’ve been missing for far too long. Far too long The first ones they found you here Oh no, they won’t forget To forget is to disconnect Disconnect Wake up Wake up We’ve been missing for far too long. Far too long Dust is risin’ on the horizon The artesian is runnin’ dry Landscape scars Those wounds that reveal Wake up Wake up We’ve been missing for far too long Far too long

Rain, falls from the sky Rain, falling from the sky Dust, upon my skin Dust, it washes off my skin Soul, under my feet Soul, it is under my feet Ground, sings unto thee Ground, singing unto thee I, I’m here right now I, I’m here for now Earth, I shall return Oh earth, I shall return I, I shall return…

Silver strings, in the sky Silken sheets, below Swallows dance, in flight Mice scamper, in the corn Crow steals, another berry Rooster crows, early Children laughing, as they play Pumpkin vine, it is dying The sun rises, every morning Life goes down, every day The sun rises, every morning Life goes down, every day Stream filled, by springs Tin shed, glistening Wind slowly, turnin’ ‘round Droplets form, on the leaves The sun rises, every morning Life goes down, every day The sun rises, every morning Life goes down, every day When I open my eyes, I see the day When I close my eyes, I dream The sun rises, every morning Life goes down, every day The sun rises, every morning Life goes down, every day

Slow Down 04:30
I have a revelation For your consideration How about we Slow down Slow down, slow down I heard a man in the street Playing guitar in the heat A voice in the wind Singing, “Somebody’s falling behind Slow down, slow down” The bell is ringing all over the land Somebody’s raising the palm of their hand The bell is ringing all over the land Slow down, slow down On the highway drivin’ fast Nobody wants to be the last There’s a yellow sign ahead Warning slow down Slow down, slow down The bell is ringing all over the land Somebody’s raising the palm of their hand The bell is ringing all over the land Slow down, slow down

You and I have come so far Our feet they tread in time Yet there are times a different rhythm sounds Together we shall be again Some days I, I fly Some days I’m walking on the ground And I remember those days, thankfully Some days, some days The present cannot be measured The past is all that we know It is love that binds our souls And love that brings us home Some days I, I fly Some days I’m walking on the ground And I remember those days, thankfully Some days, some days

When I sing in my head I sing of you When I see my life I see you too I’m thinking of you I’m thinking of you Remember that time We went to the sea? Took photos of the sunset And our lips did meet I’m thinking of you I’m thinking of you See the girls laugh See the girls play Hear them breathe Embracing the day I’m thinking of you I’m thinking of you Eyes can deceive Hearts can perceive The birds of the air They are so free I’m thinking of you I’m thinking of you I’m thinking of you I’m thinking of you When the spring rains come The flowers do bloom It’s getting late at night I walk into our room I’m thinking of you I’m thinking of you I’m thinking of you I’m thinking of you Yeah, I’m thinking of you Woo-hoo! I’m thinking of you

I was working in the garden When a bird spoke to me It said, “Life is pretty good around here Have you ever thought what it would be like Living under a mushroom?” “It’s not the kind that you eat It’s not the kind that is pretty It’s the kind that is dirty and makes you sick Have you ever thought what it would be like Living under a mushroom?” “They say it’s where only cockroaches live Where the dust cloud is hangin’ in the sky It’s no place for you or I to live Have you ever thought what it would be like Living under a mushroom?” “Unlike the ones that grow on the ground This one grows with the press of a button Some human somewhere can push that button! Have you ever thought what it would be like Living under a mushroom?” Mutually assured destruction Proliferating madness everywhere Give me a bird in a garden any day Have you ever thought what it would be like Living under a mushroom? Have you ever thought what it would be like Living under a mushroom? Have you ever thought what it would be like Living under a mushroom?

The message is clear To those who can hear The hour has come For everyone to live by the sun Live by the Industrialisation Has poisoned creation So the hour has come For everyone to live by the sun Live by the sun Let’s find us a space Within the limits of place For the hour has come For everyone to live by the sun Live by the sun The hour has come For everyone to live by the sun Live by the sun

about

An outstanding debut release from Stony Rises of songs written by Australian songwriter Owen Ellemor.

Stony Rises’ music is a blend of roots, rock, folk, blues, psychedelic and surfy twang. The music features the use of lap steel, classical and electric guitars with unusual tunings, a solid rhythm section with groove, and atmospheric synthesizer effects.

The album title comes from a song describing some of Owen’s childhood memories and the nature of growing up. One such memory is riding bikes with friends on a deserted gravel road in the light of a full moon.
